As you know, earlier this week the president terminated the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) Program, which affects members of our local community. This message concerns instructions from the US Citizenship and Immigration Service about deadlines for DACA renewal filing. Please read closely if this is relevant to you or someone you know.
Per USCIS, if a current DACA recipient’s benefits expire after March 5, 2018 then they would have to have a renewal filed on or before today. After today through October 5, 2017, only DACA renewals where the requestor’s DACA expires on or before March 5, 2018 will be accepted and processed. Link to Immigration official governmental site and their information about DACA current applications: https://www.uscis.gov/archive/consideration-deferred-action-childhood-arrivals-daca What the decision to end DACA means to our families (per Dept of Homeland Security): https://www.dhs.gov/news/2017/09/05/frequently-asked-questions-rescission-deferred-action-childhood-arrivals-daca Local resources (as compiled by the U of M) for local families and professionals: http://publicaffairs.vpcomm.umich.edu/dacaresources/ Sincerely, Logan EL Department, AAPS Mr. C was a teacher for the English Learner Summer Program at Thurston Elementary this summer.
